Christmas day was exceptional, I took a day off by slightly under-sailing the boat to be peaceful, then cleaning, arranging, general drying… Finally opening the Christmas box prepared by friends, tapenade, pâté, Saint Emilion, Calissons etc and a bottle of Champagne for Cape Horn, not forgetting the little words and greeting cards. Then I had to spend 18 hours out of the 24 in the bunk which was at least half sleeping – a real gift, I’m telling you!!!
Now, I have a concept that worries and disrupts me. It is 4 or 5 degrees on board the boat – which is good for yoghurts and custards because the boat IS a fridge in itself. This is a very unusual fridge because, of course, you find other fresh products besides the aforementioned items, but also underpants and socks (dirty or clean). A duvet that you must thus warm up by getting inside it before it warms you up itself… You’ve certainly installed the kitchen into the fridge, which is logical, but let us assume! All this is a bit unsettling. You’re going to tell me: “Well, come out of the fridge to get warm!” and well, that’s the mistake because paradoxically it is colder outside than inside, so my problem is: “where and why do we find a cold refrigerator that is hotter than outside? And vice versa for that matter. It’s the principle of the fridge that protects you from the cold while keeping you at a freezing temperature! That’s a bit unsettling for me.
Besides, ciliegina sulla torta (this is a gift for those who followed the previous chapter…), in a few weeks under the tropics, we will approach the magic of the versatility of this fridge, which, while it will be hot, will have turned into an oven!… An oven in which we will lock ourselves to protect ourselves from sunburn.
Since it was Christmas and it was cold, I allowed the entire crew to come sleep in the duvet with the captain. Poulpie, the delicate one (she is the only girl…) found that it smelled a bit like salami, impossible, I replied, I never eat anything in bed. In fact, after reflection, it makes sense since the bedroom is in the fridge!…
Hugs to everyone, and thank you for all your messages that were forwarded to me!
