It’s been an epic month exploring Polynesia 🌴⛵️🌊
I am both hopeful and heartbroken in equal measure. The wildlife here is the most abundant that I’ve seen anywhere in the world, which is incredible… but it also points to the fact that this is one of the final sanctuaries available for marine life.
In the Tuamotus we found atolls with vibrant, colorful reefs full of sharks and fish 🦈💙while the next island over would be comparable to an underwater graveyard.. 💔
I am hopeful because there are good people working to protect and restore our beautiful ocean.
I am heartbroken because I never expected some places (like Fakarava) to be destroyed so early in my lifetime.
I’ll be here until November, learning and exploring as much as I can before taking the long, cold southern road to Patagonia.
