Managed to hit the wrong side of a CCW eddy resulting in disastrous positioning for the final approach to Mindelo. Strong WSW current makes starboard tack good for heading to the Caribbean and the port tack – to Africa but at 2 – 3 knots of SOG. After several tacks, decided to head NW until clear of the strongest current and then tack east. Looks like the remaining 135 miles won’t be so easy to cover…
