Flying Fish
Mon Sep 04 2023
I found the first little flying fish on deck today. A sure sign that things
re getting warmer and they certainly are. Not sure why they “fly” I think
it’s trying to get away from a predator. You can google i and let me know as
the messaging facility on the Global Solo Challenge website is up and
running again. I received one this morning from my Uncle Mac. Just go on to
the website, find my profile page, scroll down to near the bottom and type
your message there. Right next to the “Donate Button” I think, wink, wink

Flying Spinnakers
Mon Sep 04 2023
This morning I have my A2 flying from the bowsprit. The “A” refers to the
fact that it asymmetric and the “2” is the relative size. Basically, there
are two types of spinnakers symmetric and asymmetric. The symmetric flies of
a pole attached at one end to the front of the mast the other end the
spinnaker. Symmetrical are a little trickier to set up, especially single
handed. Just so get an idea of the size of the A2 I have. My mainsail is
22.5 sq. metres, my big head sail, aka number 1 is 33sq metres. The A2 is 68
sq. metres, so must keep a very careful watch for changes in wind speed and
direction. Plus and extra watch out for big black clouds.

It’s been busy day
Sun Sep 03 2023
As I got close to Santa Cruz I picked up a mobile signal. A bit of frantic
catching up ensued. Managed to have 3 phone calls and download 7.5 GB of
various podcasts. And also got a pdf of a Rugby World Cup wall chart, which
I can keep a track of what’s going on. All I need to do now is pester
someone for the scores.
Cheers Daf :blush:Better update tomorrow, I still need to charge the boat
batteries, check weather and get something to eat
