About the boat and the Owner
JanKees Lampe
Born in 1966, started sailing in ’76. Dinghy’s and larger boats. Cruising and sailing. First singlehanded UK – Acores in 2000 on a Koopmans39 JanKees was caught by the ocean sailing virus. He bought La Promesse in 2006 with the goal to participate in OSTAR 2009. JanKees sailed La Promesse for the following fifteen years and competed in several races and record attempts.
In the winter 2021/22 La Promesse has undergone a total refit to prepare for participation in the Global Solo Challenge, nonstop circumnavigation, starting October 2023. With his eldest son Floris, JanKees participated in the TWOSTAR 2022 last May as a final test of the boat, (new) equipment and new sails.
Due to personal circumstances he will not participate in GSC and has decided to stop racing La Promesse and sell her.
“It is with deepest regret that I have to decide to part with La Promesse. She is in fantastic condition and ready to take off in any ocean race. What is still missing in her record is a circumnavigation of the world. I will give it to the next owner. Provided that he or she maintains her with as much love as I always have. In that case I wish you good luck and fun along the way! Please, keep me
posted!”
