Where does your passion for sailing come from?
At the age of 6 (1959) I went sailing on a daysailor with my dad (shipbuilder) from that day on I was hooked.
What are the lessons you learnt from sailing?
To have respect for nature in harmony with the environment where people don’t belong.
What brought you to like single-handed sailing?
On my first trip with my boat, which I’ve now owned for 25 years, there was nobody to accompany me and I sailed single-handed from Amsterdam to Las Palmas and have been passionate about solo sailing since.
What prompted you to sign up for this event?
Sailing around the world single-handed has been a dream of mine for many years.
How do you plan to prepare for this event?
My boat is under total refit at the moment and should be finished by the end of this year. I think I have enough miles under the keel for this challenge.
What do you think will be the biggest challenge?
Solitude.
Tell us about your boat or the boat you would like to have?
My boats is a 41ft cutter rigged long keeler.
SAiling Experience
I sailed since childhood, my father was a ship builder.
